Rancho La Puerta Artist Retreat & Folk Festival

Unmanageable is the Fiscal Sponsor and Co-Producer of the annual Rancho La Puerta Artist Retreat and Folk Festival in Tecate, Mexico, which includes a wealth of collaborative concerts, artists talks, and spontaneous performances, sharing the power of folk music traditions while focusing on diversity, collaboration and the dissolution of boundaries through creative exchange. Along with Producer, artist and visionary, Amber Rubarth, we are honored to share the beauty and healing power of the Ranch with retreat artists.

Rancho La Puerta is renowned as one of the world’s best spa resorts and is a deeply healing spiritual center. The Ranch is located on 4,000 acres of land in Baja California, Mexico, including 40 miles of hiking trails, 32 acres of gardens and a lush organic farm. It is nestled in a fertile valley shaded by oaks and sycamores, and guarded by Mt. Kuchumaa, a mountain sacred to the Kumeyaay tribe. Throughout the grounds you will find 86 unique garden casita guest houses, three holistic spas, 11 gyms, 4 pools, a running track, and an immeasurable number of natural spaces to create, gather, imagine and reimagine… including at least three dozen hammocks slung between the oaks.

Rancho La Puerta was created by visionaries Edmond (“The Professor”) and Deborah Szekely in 1940, initially as a small health camp where guests would enjoy fresh food, sun and river by day, and set tents under the infinite stars at night. Held by the healing powers of the land, guests began to request longer stays. Early success at Rancho La Puerta was buoyed by this, and the Professor’s message during a time of global upheaval: live simply, respect the body’s inherent wisdom, and embrace a life in nature. Deborah just turned 100 last year and is still very involved in Rancho La Puerta and the Tecate community. At the Rancho La Puerta Artist Retreat & Folk Festival we hope to reflect Edmond and Deborah Szekely’s creative spark, and share everything the Ranch has to offer with retreat artists.
